Released in February of 1970, \u201cFire and Rain\u201d has been a staple of fine songwriting for 50 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was written by James Taylor as a way to cope with the suicide of a childhood friend, as well as to express his struggles with fame and drug addiction. It was a single from Taylor\u2019s second album, <\/span>Sweet Baby James<\/span><\/a>. This song also put James Taylor on the map as a rising singer-songwriter with massive potential. Here\u2019s how to play \u201cFire and Rain\u201d on the guitar.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFire and Rain\u201d harmony and chords<\/b><\/h2>\n

Although \u201cFire and Rain\u201d may be quite a challenge for beginners, it is a relatively simple song. James Taylor recorded and <\/span>still performs it<\/span><\/a> with a capo placed at the third fret (it is always a good idea to check your tuning once you place the capo on, preferably with a <\/span>good tuner<\/span><\/a>). Please keep in mind that all references to chords will be from the perspective of the position of the capo. In other words, if I say \u201cA chord\u201d, you will actually be playing a C chord.<\/span><\/p>\n
