The electric violin is still a relatively new instrument unlike the classic instruments that have been around for centuries.

The first electric violin models only showed up in the late 1930s and early 1940s. That’s probably the reason why so many opt for the classic version of the instrument.

But you won’t give up that easy right? You’ve decided to master the electric violin and become the next Mark Wood or Lindsey Stirling. We support you. To help you stay motivated, here are a few easy songs to learn on the electric violin you can build up your confidence.

1. La Bamba

Even if you’re too young to remember the Lou Diamond Phillips film of the same name, which introduced  “La Bamba” to a new generation, you’ve heard and sang the song at one point in your life. The tune is fun and upbeat, and most importantly, features two distinctive playing styles: tenuto and tuplet groupings. Mastering these two styles will help you improve your playing technique significantly in just a few short months.

2. Survivor (Eye of the Tiger)

You’d have to live under a rock not to know Eye of the Tiger. Ever since the 1980s, the song has been featured in hundreds of movies, commercials, and of course, countless Rocky parodies. The tune is not only catchy as hell, but it’s also really easy to play on the violin. It only has two parts you need to learn, the second of which consists of all power chords. The only problem is: it will get stuck in your head for days, even after you stop practicing it.

3. All of Me

Many people would consider John Legend’s 2013 tune a modern-day classic. It’s got over a billion views on YouTube for a reason, right? Luckily for you, this ear-warming tune:

  1. Is extremely easy to play
  2. Sounds great on electric violin

The song is composed in Ab Minot, which will allow you to practice all of the scales while giving your playing style a modern twist. Moreover, the 63 bpm tempo is not too slow or fast, which makes it perfect for beginners. Of course, if you’re worried about the tempo, you can always use a metronome to practice playing at different speeds.

4. GoT Theme Music

Do you want something more recent? Then you should try learning the Game of Thrones theme music. You only need two strings – the lowest ones, to play it. That means you don’t need to worry about breaking and twisting your fingers to learn the song. Even better, since the show is so popular, there are dozens of tutorials on YouTube, which means you can master it even if you’re not attending electric violin classes.

5. Star Wars Main Theme

Not a fan of Game of Thrones? How about Star Wars? Even if you’re not a huge Star Wars nerd, you have to admit that the movie’s main theme is one of the most fun and memorable ones in film history. It’s also one of the easiest songs to learn on any instrument. The theme is pretty repetitive, so you won’t have too much trouble remembering the notes. Once you learn it by heart, playing the Star Wars theme will never get old, especially if you have a group of nerdy friends.
